The Walking School Bus (WSB) program will begin in August and will run every day that school is in session, ending on the last day of school.

To participate, students must be registered in advance. Space is limited and will be based on a safe student-to-adult ratio, so early registration is encouraged.

What is a Walking School Bus?

A Walking School Bus (WSB) is a safe, healthy, and fun way for children to walk to school with adult supervision — just like a school bus, but on foot!

Here’s how it works:

  • Each "bus" follows a set walking route with one or more responsible adults leading the way.

  • Children meet at a designated location each morning to join the group.

  • The WSB operates every school day, rain or shine!

Why Participate?

  • Safe & Supervised: Kids walk with trusted adults and practice road safety along the way.

  • Healthy Start: Walking boosts physical activity and helps kids feel more focused at school.

  • Eco-Friendly: Reduces fuel costs, car emissions, and traffic congestion in school zones.

  • Builds Community: A great way for students and parents to make new friends.

  • It’s Fun!: With themed days, special guests, and activities — every walk is an adventure!

The Walking School Bus is more than a commute — it’s a movement toward healthier, happier mornings!

Monthly Bike Train

What is the Monthly Bike Train?

The Monthly Bike Train is a fun and healthy way for students to ride their bikes to school — together and safely!

Once a month, students meet at a designated “Bike Train Stop” and ride to school under the supervision of adult “bike drivers.” It’s a great way for children to get fresh air, enjoy physical activity, and learn street safety — all before the school day begins.

Plus, it helps reduce traffic congestion and improves air quality by cutting down on long car lines!

Who Can Participate?

  • Open to Students in Grades 2–5

    • 2nd Grade Students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

    • 3rd–5th Grade Students may ride without a parent once registered.

When & Where?

  • One morning each month

  • Drop-off location: Kids Park next to Bodenhamer Center

  • Drop-off begins at 7:10 AM

  • Bike Train departs at 7:20 AM sharp for the ride to Gulf Shores Elementary School (GSES).

Important:

  • Registration is required to participate.

  • All riders must wear helmets and follow bike safety rules.

  • Parents of 2nd graders must accompany their child on the ride.

Let’s make mornings more active, eco-friendly, and fun — one ride at a time!
