WE MAKE, CREATE, LEARN, PROBLEM SOLVE, AND THINK!

STEAM is a cross-curricular educational approach including Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics that guides student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. Our goals for STEAM include career exploration, diversity in STEM, and community partnerships. Our vision of a learner is someone who takes thoughtful risks, engages in experiential learning, persists in problem-solving, embraces collaboration, and works through the creative process. These children are 21st century learners, innovators, educators, and leaders. Students at Gulf Shores Elementary School experience STEAM in enrichment classes, in the classroom, in field experiences, and in clubs. Using STEAM, students are preparing for careers that haven't even been invented yet!
Students have hands on STEAM experiences such as the following: robotics, coding, engineering, makerspace, technology fluency, science and nature, physical science, and critical thinking and creativity.
For home resources, please see the following links or contact Mrs. McKinney hmckinney@gsboe.org with questions!

Recently, GSES entered Airbus’s 50th Anniversary contest to win one of their new We WILL Build It Better Kits for elementary schools.

On E-Learning Day, GSES STEAM teacher, Hilary McKinney, along with Academies and CTE Director, Jessica Sampley, took five 4th and 5th graders to Flight Works Alabama and the Airbus Final Assembly Line for Airbus’s 50th anniversary celebration and announcement of the winner. We are thrilled to announce that Airbus so generously awarded a kit to all school systems in Mobile and Baldwin Counties! The students completed an Airbus scavenger hunt while there and spoke with various Airbus employees about their careers.

We are so thankful to be able to partner with industry who are providing so many aviation and STEAM-related career options in our region.

Thank you to City of Gulf Shores - Municipal Government for GSCS New STEAM Lab at Gulf Shores Elementary School! Without the City's help, none of this would be possible! #makewaves
The new Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) Collaborative Learning Center provides a student-centered, experienced-based learning atmosphere by integrating low- and high-tech teaching styles into the educational philosophy. It features six new flexible classrooms, two fully-equipped STEAM labs, break-out spaces, outdoor learning areas, and three aquariums. Every space in the center was designed to be utilized for learning purposes - even the hallways!
"We are excited to open the STEAM Collaborative Learning Center at Gulf Shores Elementary School. This center not only expands our student capacity but also introduces a dynamic learning environment that will provide engaging and innovative learning opportunities. It truly provides a glimpse into the future of our school system."
